FERROUS METALS

Ferrous metals contain iron, and are known for their strength. Think steel, stainless steel, carbon steel, cast iron. Ferrous metals are used in both architectural and industrial fabrication, such as skyscrapers, bridges, vehicles, and railroads. Thanks to their magnetic properties, ferrous metals are also used in appliances and engines. Ferrous metals also have a high carbon content, which generally makes them prone to rust. The exceptions are stainless steel, because of chromium, and wrought iron because of its high pure iron content.

SHREDDED STEEL SCRAP 211

Homogeneous iron and steel scrap magnetically separated, originating from automobiles, unprepared No. 1 and No. 2 steel, miscellaneous baling and sheet scrap. Average density 70 pounds per cubic foot.

HEAVY MELTING STEEL

Heavy melting steel (HMS) or heavy melting scrap is for recyclable steel and wrought iron. This is further broken up into 2 major categories: HMS1 and HMS2. Where in HMS1 does not contain galvanized and blackened steel where as the HMS 2 does. Both HMS 1 and 2 comprise obsolete scrap only - iron and steel recovered from items demolished or dismantled at the end of their life.

PLATE AND STRUCTURE

This mostly divided into 2 different types of scrap, which are code 231 and code 232

Code 231

Cut structural and plate scrap, 5 feet and under. Clean open hearth steel plates, structural shapes, crop ends, shearings, or broken steel tires. Dimensions are less than 1/4 inch thickness, not over 5 feet in length and 18 inches in width. Phosphorus/Sulphur content should not exceed 0.05%.

Code 232

Cut structural and plate scrap, 5 feet and under. Clean open hearth steel plates, structural shapes, crop ends, shearings, or broken steel tires. Dimensions are less than 1/4 inch thickness, not over 5 feet in length and 24 inches in width. Phosphorus/Sulphur contentshould not exceed 0.05%.

BUSHELLING BUNDLES

A widely traded form of steel scrap consisting of sheet clips and stampings from metal production. The term bushel came during the cold war days when a lot of metal parts were strewn acroos the land and sea.Busheling is the process of heating iron scrap and forming it into a solid block in a furnace. Most material are new factory sheet clippings, drops, stampings, clean wrought iron and soft steel pipes.

CAST IRON SCRAP

The iron used for remelting and and to be resued is called cast iron crap. These come in from homeowners who remove the scrap and hand it over to the scrapyard for further process. Iron scrap usally come in bulk from construction sites, houses and infrastructural site.

ROTORS AND DRUMS

This type of scrap is found in vechiles which has disc brakes installed in them.Once a vechile be it a train, car or even bikes all of them have brakes in them and this is made from cast iron. Once the vechile is sent for scrap these parts are removed separately and if in good use are sent for refurbshing to the plant and if has wear and tear then its is sent for remelting.

MANGANESE STEEL SCRAP

Manganese Steel Scrap, has features like durability and sturdiness,as it is manufactured from top quality manganese steel. The steel scraps are checked properly on industry defined parameters and sent to the factory for reuse. This type of steel is rust resistance with high strength and can be re-used again.
